IFS Web Client

TOWRSE: Quite ok page but needs to be updated.
MARESE: Mostly marketing material.

IFS Web Client is IFS' platform to develop and run web-based user interfaces and portals. Being a "real" DHTML solution (not relying on applets or browser plug-ins), IFS Web Client provides a rich user experience with a true web feel, while still running on the vast majority of browsers. Implementation of the server-side presentation logic is done in Java, using the powerful Web Client class library for tasks such as page formatting, graph rendering, and interaction with business logic.

Other features include support for developing portlets that can be configured and integrated into the personal portal, giving each user a unified and personalized view into IFS Applications and other information sources.

By use of style sheets and replaceable bitmaps, the appearance of the user interface generated by IFS Web Client is highly customizable. When a totally tailored user interface is required (for example for B2C solutions), JSP pages or Java Servlets may be used.

As a platform IFS Web Client includes development frameworks and tools, as well as common parts of the web user interface. IFS Web Client is used for presentation logic and user interface layout. The user interface built on IFS Web Client runs in parallel with other user interfaces.

Web interfaces for business applications are useful for multiple user groups. A Business-To-Employee (B2E) interface is used as an alternative fully functional user interface for employees. A Business-To-Business (B2B) interface lets external customers, suppliers, and partners perform relevant business activities from anywhere in the world. Finally an increasing number of Business-To-Consumer (B2C) web sites interact directly with the business application to provide richer services. IFS Web Client is focused on B2E and B2B. Support for B2C is limited.

For B2E and B2B web interfaces, IFS Web Client provides an intuitive and consistent user interface. Perhaps the most important feature is the IFS Personal Portal where each user can configure their own personal view of business application functionality, Internet content, and other data sources. The Personal Portal also serves as a navigation hub for the rest of the business application.

For the web interface developer, IFS Web Client means a stable and high-performing development platform with a powerful class library. The class library handles session management, business logic access, page rendering, caching, personal portal engine, and many other things.

Support for B2C web sites with very high demands on visual design and custom behavior is limited. Having said this, the developer of a B2C web site can use standard technologies such as JSP and JSF in combination with the IFS Web Client class library to access the business logic, querying for data and executing business functionality.

IFS Web Client Today

Today IFS Web Client is a mature battle proven platform for development of B2E and B2B web interfaces. Users will find a web interface that is intuitive to learn and use. Developers have a powerful and well tested framework that handles all the tricky details so that work can be focused on the design of the user interface.
